Precept Statement
The Town Council’s Finance & General Purposes Committee met to set the budget and to discuss the Council Tax Precept for the coming year.
It was a difficult decision but it was agreed unanimously to increase the Precept to £215,000 and this was ratified by the Full Council at the meeting held on 22nd January. This means that the Precept cost per household for a Band D property will be £28.38 for the financial year 2026/27. This equates to an increase of £8.18 per household per year on a Band D property. We realise that this will impact everyone in the community including councillors.
The money raised by the Precept will be used by the Town Council to continue to provide events such as the hugely successful Christmas Lights Switch on and Market, the Remembrance Day Services and annual events such as those previously held for the Coronation, D Day and VE Day anniversaries. These events are enjoyed by so many in our Horsforth community and beyond. The Precept also enables the Town Council to continue to provide grants and sponsorships to a range of voluntary groups that enrich our community and its environment.
In comparison to other Town Councils of a similar size, such as Otley and Wetherby, the Horsforth Precept is significantly smaller. Your Horsforth Town Councillors are committed to providing value for money and we continue to look for other sources of funding to ensure that we are able to keep Precept rises to the minimum.
The Town Council welcomes public engagement at council meetings, councillor surgeries and communications received via the Town Council office.
