VE Day event

Published: 15 May 2025

A massive thanks to all involved and who attended the 80th Anniversary of VE Day event in Hall Park on Thursday. We were honoured to be joined by our special guests from the Royal British Legion, Stephen Boardman - Deputy Lieutenant for West Yorkshire, 2527 Lawnswood Squadron Air Cadets, Scouts, Stroke of Genius band, Katie White MP, Hummingbirds, piper - Pete Lambert, Horsforth Hall Park Cricket Club and our Town and City Councillors. A special thank you too to the refugee volunteers, who the Council of Sanctuary have been working closely with, who kindly offered their time assisting with the marshalling the event.

The event started with the laying of a wreath at the Stanhope Drive War Memorial, then another special VE Day wreath ceremony at the Cenotaph. The RAF Air Cadets, along with a piper, then lead a march into Hall Park ready for the evening's musical entertainment. The night drew to a close with the lighting of a beacon to commemorate the very special day.

Thank you to everyone who attended. Horsforth, you did yourselves proud. Here a few photographs from the evening:
