80th anniversary of D-Day
Published: 05 June 2024
80 years ago on the 6 June 1944 hundreds of thousands of servicemen landed on Normandy’s beaches as part of the D-Day operation to open up a new Western Front in Europe. Recognising this important date, D-Day will be marked by the lighting of beacons across the UK and in France – beacons to pay tribute to those that took part and their families and communities who supported them. Horsforth is pleased to join this national tribute with the lighting of our beacon, along with music entertainment, tributes and quiet moments of reflection.

Celebrate National Fish and Chip Day
During the war years the ingredients for fish and chips were left unrationed to help feed those involved in the war effort. This is why, this year, National Fish and Chip Day will coincide with the 80th Anniversary of D-Day on 6 June. Grab your fish and chips from any of the following takeaways before heading to Horsforth Hall Park to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day:
- Woodside Fisheries, Low Lane
- The Cove Fish & Chips, Station Road
- Kirby’s of Horsforth, Long Row
- The Regent, Regent Road
- Hartley’s Fish and Chips, New Road Side
- Scoffs, vegan alternative, New Road Side
