Leeds recycling and Energy Recovery Facility Tours
Published: 08 February 2024
Have you ever wondered what happens to your black bin waste in Leeds?
Did you know that none of the black bin waste from Leeds
households goes to landfill? Instead, it goes to the recycling
and energy recovery facility (RERF), at Cross Green. Free, behind the
scenes tours of the site are available Monday-Friday, throughout the day, for
community groups or individuals who are interested in finding out more about
their black bin household waste journey.
Whether you’re part of a group or just keen to see behind the scenes, find out how heat and electrical energy is generated whilst learning about recycling. Visitors will need to be 16 years old and over. Booking is required and you need to be available for the full session, which takes around 2 hours. This event includes a tour of the operational areas including control room, boiler hall, furnace, living wall and the viewing balcony.
