Horsforth Town Council knows that it is important to recognise the hard work and successes of local people making a difference for Horsforth. Good citizens might be volunteers or community workers going that extra mile and young achievers might be excellent students or inspirational carers. Previous winners include dancers, the citizen who brought about the Neighbourhood Plan for Horsforth, the Horsforth Litter Pickers who keep Horsforth clean despite the antisocial behaviour of a minority who dump their rubbish instead of disposing of it properly, and a resident working hard to raise funds for dementia care.

Each year we acknowledge and highlight these achievements through the Good Citizen and Young Achiever Awards – local people nominated by local people. The Town Council welcomes nominations for anyone living in the Horsforth area.

Each year the winners are selected by the Community and Environment Committee and then presented with a recognition certificate at the Christmas Light Switch on the first Saturday of December.

Our 2023 winners

Good Citizen Awards went to Paul Beal for his work in recruiting defibrillator guardians to monitor CPADs, and Barbara Buckley for helping to improve the lives of many elderly and lonely people in Horsforth through the Monday Lunch Club amongst other initiatives.

Good Citizen Groups Awards were presented to Horsforth Sports Club Association Committee for the community work they do in Horsforth, and Horsforth in Bloom in recognition of the community work you do in Horsforth.

Finally, Finlay and Fergus Smith were both awarded the 2023 Young Achiever Award for their achievements representing the Junior GB squad at the IFMA World Muay Thai Championships.
